Seth Walsh, of Tehachapi, California, killed himself in his garden at the age of 13. He endured years of homophobic taunts and abuse from schoolmates and neighbours before making the tragic decision to take his own life. Seth's case was not unique: in the same month he died, at least five other teenage boys in the United States committed suicide because of unbearable homophobic bullying.
Lesbian rights activist Pauline Kimani discusses homosexuality on a TV show in Nairobi, Kenya. Over the next few weeks, she was repeatedly verbally abused on the street and in other public places, and was allegedly followed and threatened with rape by a group of men. She also received written death threats in envelopes installed outside her residence
Lorenza Alexis Alvarado Hernandez, a 23-year-old transgender woman, was found dead in a ditch, apparently beaten and burned in the city of Comayaguela, Honduras burn. The blood-stained stones near the body indicated that the wounds on her body had been caused by the rubble. Her body was burned. A used condom was also found at the scene, suggesting she may have also been raped. Her face was badly wounded and her body was almost unrecognizable.
